Documentaries Seattle

Preserving the Past. Inspiring the Future.

Documentaries Seattle is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating compelling documentary films that preserve and share the rich history of the Pacific Northwest. Through engaging storytelling, we produce educational films for public television, Washington State classrooms, museums, libraries, and community organizations—making our region’s history accessible to everyone.

Our projects are made possible through the generous support of foundations, corporations, and individual donors who share our commitment to education and historical preservation.

We believe history should do more than inform—it should inspire. By combining meticulous research with cinematic storytelling, innovative editing, animation, sound design, and original music, we bring the people, places, and events that shaped our region vividly to life. Every film is grounded in historical integrity while crafted to captivate modern audiences of all ages.

By preserving our collective memory and making it freely available for education, we hope to foster a deeper understanding of the past, encourage meaningful conversations, and inspire future generations to appreciate the remarkable stories that continue to shape the Pacific Northwest.

Where Innovation Meets Education—and History Comes Alive.

No single person can tell the story of the Pacific Northwest. By inviting historians, journalists, educators, tribal voices, scientists, and local writers to tell the stories they know best, our films present history through many perspectives while remaining grounded in careful research and historical integrity.
